Frequently Asked Questions About Our Volunteer Program
Question: I’m a college student and can’t volunteer during the summer. Can I still volunteer?
Answer: Absolutely! Absences of up to 4 months will not affect your volunteer status.
Question: I haven’t volunteered for a while, can I come back?
Answer: We would love to have you return to HHS! If you have been away for longer than 4 months, we will have you come in for a refresher before you begin volunteering with the animals.
Question: I’m a member of a group that is looking for volunteer opportunities in the community. Can we volunteer at HHS?

Question: I can’t volunteer during the school year due to academic and extra-curricular commitments. Can I still volunteer?
Answer: You can! Complete the appropriate volunteer application, scan and email it to [email protected]. Make sure you indicate when you are available to volunteer on your application.
Question: I’m a teacher or group leader and would like to schedule a tour. How do I go about doing that?
Answer: The preferred way is for you to send an email to [email protected] with the name of your group, the number of people who will be going on the tour, and at least two possible dates. Someone will get back to you within 3 business days. If email isn’t available, you may call 757-221-0150, extension 1002 to speak to someone or leave a message.
