Volunteer Application (must be 16 years and older)
The Heritage Humane Society (HHS) encourages the participation of individuals who wish to support our mission statement and core values. Orientation is required for participation in our Volunteer Program and will be provided by HHS throughout the year. We kindly ask you to commit to a minimum of 6 hours per month for a 6 month period of time. Additional training may be required for some volunteer positions.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Heritage Humane Society serves as the compassionate steward of companion animals that are in transition from stray/surrender to forever homes. Heritage Humane Society will also educate the public about humane animal care and treatment, advocate animal welfare, and provide affordable adoption and spay/neuter services to measurably reduce overpopulation of unwanted companion animals.

Participants must be at least 16 years old to volunteer . Volunteers under 18 must have a parent(s)/legal guardian(s) sign our Liability Waiver on their behalf, as it is a legally binding document.
Update: Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in our area, we are temporarily suspending the orientation and training of new volunteers. We will reevaluate the situation after the New Year. We will keep your application on file and when we are able to offer our volunteer orientations again we will contact you via email with more details.
Areas of Volunteer Interest:
Foster Care:
Provide a temporary home for adult dogs/puppies, cats/kittens and cats/dogs with special needs (sick, learn to socialize with humans and/or animals) until they are ready to be adopted (Additional application, screening and training required). Read more >
PetSmart Cat Adoption Center:
We house cats at the location on Monticello and we always would love to have a volunteer to help clean the cages in the morning and evening and also spend some extra socialization time with the cats.
Transporter:
Transport animals either to our facility from other rescues or from our facility to another rescue or their forever home.
Special Events:
Help with offsites, humane education, school presentations, and fundraising events.
Cat Socialization (Daily 11 AM – 3:30 PM):
Petting, brushing cuddling and playing with our cats/kittens to improve their temperament and quality of life while in the shelter.
Dog Socialization/Dog Walking:
Walking petting, brushing and playing with our dogs/puppies to improve their temperament and quality of life while in the shelter.
Clean Up Crew (8 AM-11 AM each day):
Help clean kennels, cat cages, bowls, laundry, mopping, sweeping, etc.
Shelter Maintenance/Landscaping:
Mowing the lawn, weeding and gardening, assisting with general maintenance and repair.
