Animal Care Technician (ACT) (Full-time with benefits)

POSITION SUMMARY: The ACT is responsible for working alongside the Animal Care Attendants and volunteers during the daily cleaning, feeding, walking and enrichment tasks as well as assisting with the daily assignments for the team members. The ACT is expected to assist with providing detailed training on proper cleaning protocols and practices to volunteers and community service workers. Mentors and trains new staff members.

Maintaining a clean facility while providing daily care and sanitation for sheltered companion animals at The Heritage Humane Society is a must. Role-modeling excellent animal care for staff members and volunteers as well as making sound decisions is a critical function of the ACT. Great customer service skills in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, professional attitude with a focus on teamwork is expected of all employees. The perfect candidate will be cross-trained and willing/able to work with dogs, cats, and small critters and be able to assist with a variety of other duties as needed.

Customer Care Coordinator (Full-time with benefits)

POSITION SUMMARY: Assist incoming and outgoing pets at The Heritage Humane Society (HHS) by implementing adoptions, fosters, transfers, return to owners, and admissions to the program. Support all aspects of Customer Care from HHS with a positive, can-do attitude. Warmly welcome guests, answer phones, and enhance the guest experience while ensuring that the processes are executed invitingly, following state and local laws, working extensively with the animal software database and foster management system, and helping with marketing for lost and stray animals and those waiting to be adopted. Assist with the retail store, accepting donations, and assisting community members. Talk to guests and find
ways to improve their adoption experience with additional services, including education, retail, and more.

Pathways Coordinator (Full-time with benefits)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Pathways Coordinator assists with various pathway areas – medical, foster, behavior, and customer care. Duties include many functions, including assisting with medical exams, calling fosters to arrange check-ups, assisting with prepping pets for off-site events, helping with vet rounds, assisting at the front desk, entering data into the computer, answering medical questions from foster families using a variety of methods (phone, email, software chat), and various other duties. Also, maintaining a clean, clutter-free facility while providing daily care to pets at Heritage Humane
Society is required. Excellent customer service skills in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
with a focus on teamwork are expected as part of this role. The perfect candidate will be cross-trained and willing/able
to work with dogs, cats, and small critters, as well as assist with various other duties as needed.

  • Surrender Hours
    • Please call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule your surrender appointment (757-221-0150 ext.0). Our surrender hours are from 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., by appointment only. Stray animals do not require an appointment, but when possible please call ahead.
