Give Local 757
On May 5, The Heritage Humane Society is inviting the community to join in Give Local 757, Hampton Roads’ biggest 24-hour day of giving, to help provide a much-needed push for operating funds.
In 2025 alone, HHS served more than 1,900 animals. This year, we’ve seen a 40% increase year-to-date in animal intakes. This annual giving day is perfectly timed to help us close the gap in funding that that increase has resulted in.
The shelter’s goal is to raise $15,000 on May 5. Every donation will be put into immediate action, and because we have $15,000 in gift match support, your donation will go twice as far!
Giving Levels
Want an idea of what it costs to help run the shelter each day? Peruse some of the suggested giving levels and their descriptions below, and remember – every donation will be DOUBLED!
- $5,000: Underwrites one full day of shelter operations, supporting staffing, facilities and comprehensive animal care (actual daily cost is $6,522, excluding government contracts and grants)
- $2,500: Covers a spay / neuter day. On average, we send 8 dogs and 12 cats on a surgery day
- $1,000: Provides heartworm treatment for two dogs
- $500: Sponsors the full care cost for one pet from intake to adoption
- $250: Covers the cost of vaccinations and a spay / neuter for a puppy
- $100: Supplies one week of enrichment resources for animals across the shelter
- $75: Covers one vet exam
- $50: Supplies one week of pill pockets for the successful administration of medicine
- $25: Covers one Parvo test
