A Note from the Director:

Like nearly every animal shelter in America, Heritage Humane Society is experiencing an extremely high volume of pets in need of care. Between the ones being brought into our facility daily and the ones we are providing resources such as food and basic supplies through our Kibble Kitchen, the needs are significant. Recently, our friends at Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) were hit with a real hardship when 278 pets entered their program in just ten days. All the local shelters that can help ARE! We are proud to offer our support, although it is limited since we are already at peak levels. The attached press release explains more about this situation.

We are preparing pets for adoption as fast as our resources allow. We have slowed our number of owner surrender intakes by only accepting emergency cases starting today. Non-emergency owner surrender intakes will be scheduled when more space is available through adoptions or pets going into foster homes. This current change does not affect stray or seized animals. If bringing us a stray, please call ahead to allow our team time to make room for them in the building. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide safe housing and care to each pet that is depending on us. “Clear the Shelters” is an excellent time to bring home a new family member or two and have a little extra fun with our PLINKO game.
