Put Your Paws in the Air and wave ‘em like you just DO care…for good times for doing good things for the homeless pets at The Heritage Humane Society. Paws in the Air with presenting sponsor Noah’s Ark Veterinary Hospital, is an inaugural event happening Sept. 30, 2023 from 2 to 5 p.m. Held at Legacy Hall in New Town Williamsburg, this adults-only event (21 and older) will feature locally crafted beverages, food, music and more along with meet and greets with adoptable dogs.

At the heart of the event is a community purpose – to come together, enjoy local talent and ultimately provide support for the more than 200 homeless dogs, cats and small pets temporarily living at The Heritage Humane Society. Proceeds from Paws in the Air benefit The McDuff Endowment Fund that is a restricted fund that provides a safety net for the medical needs of homeless pets at The Heritage Humane Society. By making a gift to the McDuff Fund, donors ensure that the lifesaving mission of Greater Williamsburg’s largest shelter continues for many years to come.

New beer dropping for Paws in the Air

The excitement of a new brew is a highlight for Paws in the Air. Virginia Beer Company, an event sponsor, will debut a signature McDuff Beer created for Paws in the Air. The cream ale is served up in a colorful can featuring artwork that is a play on the recognizable Duff Beer from the television show, The Simpsons. Beginning next weekend, McDuff Beer can also be purchased at Virginia Beer Company on draft or canned. For every four pack sold, the brewery will donate four dollars to the McDuff Fund.

The Williamsburg Winery, also an event sponsor, will be on hand offering two of its local favorites, a 2020 Virginia Cabernet Sauvignon and a Petit Manseng. International fare including a vegetarian option will be provided by Nomads Food Truck.

Event goers can enjoy live music by Identity Crisis, a raffle and bid on a wide selection of silent auction items. The shelter will also bring some of its adoptable shelter dogs who love events and are hoping to find their forever homes.

Each $35 ticket for this 21 and older event includes admission, a lunch platter, two drink tickets (good for wine and beer), and one raffle ticket. Additional drink tickets and raffle tickets can be purchased at the event. Nomads Food Truck will also have additional food options for an additional price.

The Heritage Humane Society has nearly 230 dogs, cats and small pets currently in their care. Adoptable pets are available to meet during The Heritage Humane Society’s visiting and adopting hours from 12 to 4:30 p.m., Tues. through Sun.
