If the change of seasons and children heading back to school leaves people ready for their own change, The Heritage Humane Society is readily seeking passionate animal lovers for exciting job opportunities. Greater Williamsburg’s largest animal shelter is hiring, providing a wonderful chance to work in a rewarding environment dedicated to animal welfare right here in the local community.

A paycheck that includes wiggles and nose kisses

Meeting and exceeding the needs of the local community’s pet population takes a team of dedicated staff joined by talented volunteers. For those seeking hands-on work experience in an environment where no two days are the same, teamwork is essential, and the mission is to improve the lives of the area’s homeless pet population, The Heritage Humane Society is one of the area’s most dynamic nonprofit organizations that is making a major impact every single day of the year.
The Heritage Humane Society is currently hiring two full-time positions and one part-time role. Open positions include:
  • Customer Care Coordinator (Full-time).  This role is ideal for someone with a deep passion for customer service and strong organizational skills. The Customer Care Coordinator is often the face of The Heritage Humane Society, helping visitors, handling inquiries, facilitating adoptions, reconnecting lost pets with their owners, helping with the ReTAIL Store, and more. This role ensures a smooth, seamless experience for all.
  • Animal Care Technician (Full-time). Perfect for the hands-on person who is committed to the daily care and well-being of animals, this position offers the chance to make a direct impact on their lives. Responsibilities include feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the health of the animals. Sloppy dog kisses, grateful purrs, wagging tails and trusting connections enrich the days of Animal Care Technicians.
  • Animal Care Attendant (Part-time). Ideal for those seeking flexible hours, this role focuses on assisting with the day-to-day care of the animals, including cleaning enclosures and providing much-needed attention and affection.
“Caring for shelter pets who are under care in preparation to be adopted or who are ready and simply eager to find their forever home takes a lot of work, a team effort, and a can-do attitude,” says Kimberly Laska, CAWA, Executive Director of The Heritage Humane Society. “These positions are vital for the pets who might be fighting for their lives, the scared strays or surrenders who are heartbroken, and the dogs, cats or any of our small critters who are ultimately waiting to find their perfect human companion match. These moments stay with you forever here at The Heritage Humane Society, and knowing that every single member of our shelter is making a difference right here in our community is truly a fulfilling job experience.”
