Calling young pet lovers! The Heritage Humane Society announces its new kids’ club, Animal Aces. Registration is now open to this much-anticipated new experience in Greater Williamsburg – and it’s just in time for holiday gifting.

What is Animal Aces?

Animal Aces Kids’ Club invites children ages eight to twelve years old to join a club where they can meet and socialize with peers, learn about all the different types of pets who come through the shelter, discover their needs, and most of all, become involved in their community.
Animal Aces Kids’ Club online registration is now open. The 2024 membership season runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024. Membership includes an exclusive Animal Aces t-shirt, welcome pack and quarterly newsletter along with the opportunity to attend monthly activities at The Heritage Humane Society, naming opportunities for incoming adoptable pets (always popular!), and discounts on camps, movie nights, birthday parties, and the shelter’s ReTAIL store.
The kids’ club will be led by the shelters Humane Education and Activities Manager, Kendell Thomas. She shares, “Demand continues to grow for hands-on experiences and seeing firsthand who engaged children are at The Heritage Humane Society’s kids’ camps and kids’ nights out, Animal Aces lets our community’s children engage year-round with Greater Williamsburg’s largest homeless pet shelter, learn and have fun.”

Learn more at the Holiday Bazaar

People can also learn more about Animal Aces at The Heritage Humane Society’s 2023 Holiday Bazaar. Held at Bruton Parish Hall on Sat., Nov. 18, from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., the annual festive event brings together the area’s pet lovers and supporters for holiday shopping that benefits the shelter’s homeless dogs, cats and more. The Animal Aces Kids’ Club table will have information about this new program and you can meet some of the children who helped prepare the group’s holiday cookie jar mixes.

The cookie jar mixes include chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip and snickerdoodle for people and a special doggie cookie mix for your favorite pooch! The shelter will receive 100% of the cookie mix proceeds. The Heritage Humane Society is grateful to Carrot Tree Kitchens for being the Cookie Jar Sponsor of the 2023 Holiday Bazaar. Youth volunteers will be assembling the mixes on Nov. 11 in the shelter’s classroom.

November Kids’ Out Movie Night

Since kicking off a monthly kids’ out movie night (read: date night for parents), this event continues to be popular for children wanting to have fun with their friends and make new ones. The Thanksgiving Kids’ Movie Night is for children ages eight through twelve and it’s being held at the shelter on Nov. 25 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. They’ll enjoy a pet-themed educational activity, the movie Free Birds and popcorn and pizza. Kids will also have a chance to meet some of the shelter’s lovable, adoptable pets.

Pajamas are welcome, but not required. Kids are encouraged to bring their favorite blanket and pillow along with a refillable water bottle. Registration is $20 per child and movie night reservation can be made online.

Welcome love this holiday season

The Heritage Humane Society has nearly 215 dogscats and small pets currently in their care. Adoptable pets are available to meet during The Heritage Humane Society’s visiting and adopting hours from 12 to 4:30 p.m., Tues. through Sun.
