Williamsburg Jewelers is well known for exquisite jewelry, friendly service and deep commitment to the local community. In fact, Owner Michael Fagen is a fan-favorite on Facebook because of his unyielding celebration and support of local businesses and organizations. For Greater Williamsburg’s favorite jeweler, this love has become a match-making initiative that is helping some of the area’s homeless pets find their forever homes. Since December 2023, the store has opened its doors and its heart to adoptable dogs from The Heritage Humane Society in a special initiative called “Adopt Me Saturdays.”

A golden beginning and a legacy of love

“Adopt Me Saturdays” is held on the fourth Saturday of each month. During that time, an adoptable shelter dog visits Williamsburg Jewelers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and thanks to Fagan’s generosity, the adoption fee for the featured pet is fully sponsored.
On Dec. 16, 2023, the initiative launched with a heartwarming success story. Within the first hour of his visit, Laird, a lovable dog from HHS, found his forever home. Inspired, Fagan also sponsored the adoption fee for another dog from The Heritage Humane Society, Elffie, who was promptly adopted the same day. Located in Williamsburg at 2023 Richmond Road, Suite E, Williamsburg Jewelers has sponsored a total of $2,375 in adoption fees, creating a lasting impact for both pets and families in the local community. This thoughtful contribution has brightened the futures of 14 dogs so far, the most recent being Miss Delicious, adopted this Nov. 3. The next opportunity for locals to meet an adoptable dog at Williamsburg Jewelers is Saturday, Nov. 23.

A jewel in the heart of the community

Fagan is deeply committed to community support, a sentiment reflected in his personal mantra, “SHOP and EAT local!” Describing the Greater Williamsburg community as “special and unique,” Fagan notes that it enjoys uplifting its members. Reflecting on his connection with The Heritage Humane Society, he shared, “Those animals DESERVE love, care, advocacy, and a safe, loving HOME. The Heritage Humane Society works hard to do all of that, and more, for those animals who depend on us so much.” His passion for supporting HHS has earned him the lighthearted nickname, “Captain Local,” a title he wears with pride.

A family of feline miracles

Fagan’s personal life mirrors his dedication to animals, as he and his girlfriend Tina have opened their home to three rescue cats, each with a story of resilience. The first, Vader, was saved by Tina from a precarious situation in Gloucester when someone was about to abandon him and his three sisters behind a dumpster. Tina took in all four kittens, and within a week, Fagan was persuaded that he couldn’t live without Vader. Their second cat, Yoda, came from The Heritage Humane Society as a Christmas gift, sharing the same birthday as Tina. After surviving multiple close calls as a tiny kitten, Yoda became an instant member of their family when he was delivered to Williamsburg Jewelers by a shelter staff member dressed as Santa.
The most recent addition, Anakin, touched Fagan’s heart in a special way. Born without complete back legs, she came to HHS as a disfigured kitten. Seeing her photo online on Valentine’s night, Fagan knew she belonged with their Star Wars-themed family and quickly arranged to bring her home. Anakin now thrives as a cherished member of the household, her resilience a daily inspiration. “All three of my cats are ‘miracles,’” Fagan says, adding that he’s grateful for every day he gets to be their human.

A shining beacon of compassion eyes new 2025 event

Through Williamsburg Jewelers, Fagan has polished a unique place in the community, merging business and heart to shine brightly for both people and pets alike. The continued support for adoptable pets at The Heritage Humane Society has brought joy to adopters while also fostering a spirit of kindness that lights up the local area.
Expanding on its “Adopt Me Saturdays” initiative, Williamsburg Jewelers is delighted to be a sponsor of The Heritage Humane Society’s inaugural Black Ties & Tails Gala. Being held Feb. 15, the event is a heartfelt match bringing together community pet lovers for a plated dinner, wine, beer, raffles, a VIP reception with champagne hors d’oeuvres, a concert by Good Shot Judy … and even a surprise from Williamsburg Jewelers, itself! Until then, Williamsburg Jewelers welcomes customers to visit its store with hopes they’ll find their perfect gem, whether it be a sentimental gift of jewelry or the addition of a new furry friend to their lives.
