She is always up for adventure, is the gentlest treat taker, and loves to give kisses, yet, next month, Alice will mark an anniversary no pup wants to mark – one year being homeless in an animal shelter. The team at The Heritage Humane Society believes the right match is right here in the community and is sharing more about Alice as she dreams of her forever home.
Meet Alice and her cheerleaders
Alice is a six-year-old brindle beauty who is full of curiosity, energy, love and happiness. This fun-loving girl is a pit/terrier mix who loves to chill as much as she likes to play. She originally came to The Heritage Humane Society in March 2021. A good Samaritan picked her up as a stray. She was adopted in August 2021, however, she was returned one year later in August 2022 because her previous owner had to move unexpectedly and could not bring her.
Alice will happily forego a one-year shelter anniversary for something every homeless pet wants and needs, a loving home. These Heritage Humane Society volunteers have each spent a lot of time with Alice, and in various capacities, and want potential adopters to learn about their experiences with this sweet girl.
• Alice at The Heritage Humane Society. Amanda Ibrahim is a volunteer that has taken Alice for hundreds of walks over the past 11 months.
Amanda shares, “The staff and volunteers here LOVE Alice! She deserves a Superhero badge for enduring shelter life for almost a year now. The amount of joy she still exudes when you go into her room brings the biggest smile to my face. She will quickly grab a toy, rawhide, or my leash. Then she wiggles and runs around me until she is all set to go! She loves going on long walks and also really enjoys getting a lot of pets. Finding her a forever home would mean everything to her. Not only will her life change, you will get to experience pure joy from a loyal companion who will brighten every day!”
• Alice on Fido Field Trips. During Alice’s eleven months as the shelter, Heritage Humane Society Volunteer Janet Zikes has taken Alice on many Fido Field Trips.
“Alice is a sweet little girl filled with energy and kisses. She loves her walks and is always up for any adventure. We have taken Alice on many walks and she has always been well-behaved. She does sometimes pull in her excitement but she is easily managed. She is curious about other dogs and gets very excited to meet them. She rides well in the car and hops right in. She would be a great companion for an active person who is ready to lead her on an adventure,” shares Janet Zikes.
• Alice with her previous foster parents. Louise and Todd Denkins are Alice’s previous foster parents. They rave about Little Miss Alice being such a nice house guest, how she is a quiet young lady and the most gentle treat taker they’ve ever met. She is a go-with-the-flow girl and loves to settle in at home. When it is playtime, Alice loved toys, especially a good game of tug. The Denkins took her on a little vacation and reported she did exceptionally well on the four-hour car ride. They shared she is crate trained, housetrained, and adorable, Alice will proudly bring you her leash when she needs to go out.
The Denkins share, “She is a fun loving girl who loves squeaky toys, a good game of tug, treat filled kongs, human interaction and vanilla ice cream! She spent most of the week going for strolls, napping and playing with her toys. The week away really seemed to help her destress from the busy shelter environment.”
• Alice goes to college…kind of. Last August, Alice went on a mini foster vacation with Rebecca Rogers who readily reported, “My college housemates and I had the privilege of fostering Alice this past week. Alice is a six-year-old pit/terrier mix who can both be playful and mellow. We loved how friendly she was and her contagious energy. There were many walks where Alice demonstrated her amazing walking skills alongside her sociableness! She truly has the heart of my housemates and me. While we would love to be able to foster Alice again in the future, we hope that she is adopted by a loving family soon! She is truly a gentle soul who can accommodate any family style. We love Alice and we know there is another family out there to love her forever.”
Party of one, please
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 65% of dog-owning households owned just one dog in 2020, compared to 60% in 2016. Alice is fantastic with people. She cannot wait to be with her forever human family, however, she needs to be the only pet. Her previous foster family, the Denkins, ask that potential adopters respect Alice’s desire to be the only pet, particularly as other pets are stressful for her.
Adoption fee is already paid for
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the adoption fee for Alice is completely covered. This helps her forever family head straight for the fun stuff – toy and food shopping, and a lifetime of memories to be made.
