Spin The Heritage Humane Society’s “Wheel of Pet Fortune” and save when adopting a new furry (or not-so-furry friend) for National Clear the Shelters Month. Celebrating Clear the Shelters’ 10th anniversary, people adopting pets anytime Aug. 10 through Sept. 10 will enjoy savings, a new friend and the added joy of participating in this annual nationwide movement.

10th anniversary of Clear the Shelters

NBCUniversal Local, including WAVY TV 10 in Hampton Roads, is teaming up with hundreds of shelters like The Heritage Humane Society across the country to host Clear The Shelters for 2024. This is a nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign that helps find loving homes for animals in need.
More than one million pets have found their forever homes since 2015 through Clear the Shelters. In 2023, this initiative resulted in 147 adoptions including 89 cats, 40 dogs, two guinea pigs, one hamster, one ferret, one rat, one bird and one chinchilla.

Spin, save and support new journeys

Nationwide, including at The Heritage Humane Society, so many shelters are overflowing, particularly with dogs. For adopters, that means a large selection of all different types of dogs, from small to large, laidback to playfully active, and young to seasoned. For shelter pets, The Heritage Humane Society’s Clear the Shelters provides additional support in helping them find their next chapter in a fur-ever home.
Spinning the Wheel of Pet Fortune is for approved adopters only who have selected their new friend or friends, and completed the adoption process. The wheel can land on a dollar amount off of adoption fees, a percentage off of adoption fees and discounts at the shelter’s ReTAIL Store. Spin Again or a range of savings on their new pet. Two places in town to save

The Clear the Shelters promotion is available at both The Heritage Humane Society, located at 430 Waller Mill Road in Williamsburg, and at Schwartzy’s Cat Cove at The Nautical Dog, located at 5102 Main St. Suite B in New Town in Williamsburg.
Schwartzy’s Cat Cove celebrated its second anniversary on July 16. Shortly following the celebration, the 400th cat adoption took place on July 30, with Skippy the cat being the milestone adoptee. Schwartzy’s Cat Cove is conveniently located at The Nautical Dog, which provides a major selection of high-quality pet food, toys, treats and so much more.

Meet the selectees searching for their adoption day

Nearly 250 dogscats and small pets are currently in the shelter’s care. Adoptable pets are available to meet during The Heritage Humane Society’s visiting and adopting hours from noon to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
