Manitee Keith

Manitee Keith began her volunteerism at Heritage Humane Society in August 2022. In that time she has done so much for the pets in our care. She is at Heritage Humane Society multiple times a week helping with the many dogs in our care. She is also an incredible foster volunteer. Read Manitee’s words below to learn more about her.

How did you find Heritage Humane Society?

I adopted my first cat from HHS in October of 2017 after my beloved cat of 15 years passed. Then in 2020, we adopted again from HHS. In 2021 my family decided we would give fostering a try. In August of 2022 I went to volunteer orientation and jumped right in. Now HHS is my happy place, my hobby, and where I enjoy spending my free time.

What is the most rewarding aspect of Volunteering with HHS?

I love getting to work with literally hundreds and hundreds of animals. It’s a dream come true for me. Advocating for and helping to get dogs adopted fills my cup. It’s something I am very passionate about.

What advice would you give to a new volunteer?

If you have extra time but haven’t signed up to help just come on in anyway. There is always something to do or help out with. There’s always a dog that could use an extra walk, a cat that would love its head being scratched, or a load of laundry that needs to be switched out. And don’t forget to come and say hi to me. I will always be glad to see your face.
I started fostering for HHS in 2021. Libby, my first foster, was a sweet one eyed cat that had been through the wringer and I immediately fell in love.   I have an affinity for the old, decrepit, and unwanted animals. After being in and out of HHS quite a bit for Libby’s extensive medical treatment, I decided to volunteer to work with cats.  While I’ve always been a cat person I instantly turned my attention to the dogs in their care. I became hooked. I found myself wanting to learn more and do more with those fantastic creatures. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work with the most amazing animal lovers and learn so much from the incredible trainers on staff. I still foster cats, but now I also foster small animals and dogs. If you see me around say hi and together let’s make HHS the best it can be!
