In a heartwarming yet urgent plea, The Heritage Humane Society is spotlighting the stories of its longest residents — a group of lovable dogs who have spent far too many days waiting for a forever family.
These furry friends, each with a unique story and boundless love to give, have been overlooked time and time again, however, the shelter staff and volunteers are determined to change their fate.
Meet Brad Pitbull
Superstar Brad Pitbull is handsome like his namesake and is equally as sweet. This two-year-old terrier mix arrived as a stray on Nov. 14. The three-legged charmer doesn’t let his missing leg doesn’t slow him down from being faster than his speeding paparazzi. He may take the occasional tumble worthy of a dramatic movie scene, but he always bounces back with a grin that could melt hearts. Brad has completed Level 1 dog training at The Heritage Humane Society. This lovebug thrives in an active household with confident dogs and just as easily prefers to wind down by cuddling in a lap.
Meet Butterscotch
Butterscotch is a delightfully golden brown girl with a buttery sweet personality. Smart and treat-motivated, she quickly learns commands like “sit” and “paw.” While her compatibility with cats is unknown, she loves playing with dogs her size. For those seeking a companion for hikes and exploring, Butterscotch fits the bill. Three-year-old Butterscotch was surrendered in February 2022 when her human companion had to move to a place where they could not have pets. This girl is ready to sweeten the day of a forever family.
Meet Dolly
After 580 days under the care of The Heritage Humane Society, this sweet lady is ready to be doted on. Dolly is a 10-year-old German Shepherd mix. She is known as one of the sweetest, gentlest souls. She prefers a quieter setting where she can be the only pet to receive undivided attention. Dolly’s foster family reports that she enjoys walks, basic commands, playing with a ball, and chewing on rawhide bones. She’s been well cared for and is looking for a patient owner who can provide her with love and attention. Dolly’s adoption fee has been kindly sponsored by Bucktrout Funeral Home.
Meet Good Golly Miss Molly
Good Golly Miss Molly was found on a construction site on Nov. 4. The kind construction worker brought her to The Heritage Humane Society so she could have a second chance at a better life. This 11-year-old mixed breed has been hoping for a fur-ever home while waiting in a foster home over the past four months. Her foster mom reports, “Miss Molly is such a doll! She has transitioned well into our home and routines. She should be fine in a home with another lower-energy dog who is very respectful of boundaries and can read cues. Molly hasn’t acknowledged our cat at all, so we believe she would be fine in a home with kitty friends too. She is housebroken and will go to the door to tell us if she needs to go out. Molly is very low-key and generally just likes being around us. She does get some energy bursts and it’s so cute to see her get excited and run.” Good Golly Miss Molly‘s adoption fee has been sponsored by an anonymous donor.
Meet Jonesie
Living in a kennel for almost one whole year as of May 25 is no place for any pet, especially Jonesie. This lovable three-year-old mixed breed has a playful spirit and a penchant for long walks. While Jonesie is the ideal companion for an active individual or family with older children looking for a furry friend to share adventures with, he’s in need of being the center of attention in a foster home right now. Jonesie’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the generosity of an anonymous donor.
Meet Rio
As delightfully photogenic as his personality is vibrant, Rio sadly hit the one-year mark of living in the shelter this past March. Rio is ready for someone to spring him from the pound and join him for the forever life that is as great for him as it is for them. He is a six-year-old American Staffordshire mix. Rio has a zest for life, loves going on adventures and knows basic commands. Rio’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the generosity of an anonymous donor. Who will rescue Rio?
Meet Uh-Oh Spaghetti-O’s
Uh-Oh Spaghetti-O’s arrived at The Heritage Humane Society as a stray and was quickly named because of the “un-ohs” he was enduring. He was found as a stray in Waller Mill Park in November. The five-year-old German Shepherd mix was suffering from severe skin issues, was emaciated and needed some care on the inside as well as the outside. The shelter team worked hard getting Uh-Oh on the road to recovery. From sad sight to dapper delight, Uh-Oh is ready to be the main dish in a forever home.
Camera-ready, adoptable pets
The shelter is filled with homeless pets who are eager to have new homes. Adding to the fun, adopt a just in time for this year’s Hello Summer Pet Photo Contest.
Nearly 180 dogs, cats and small pets are currently in their care. Adoptable pets are available to meet during The Heritage Humane Society’s visiting and adopting hours from noon to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
